The Natorei Cell formally accepts the invitation to the Karyukai Masquerade! Attending are Xipil, the Cell’s master of traditional and elemental magics, and Circaea, military archivist and former exalted of the Lightweaver. 

Xipil is more than thrilled to attend; she loves parties, and fully intends to spend the whole evening socializing. She’s also in the market for either serious or casual romance, and is definitely hoping for a fling or two. Her bright personality makes her an ideal party guest for those looking for conversation and gossip, and she loves dancing more than she can express. 

Circaea is much more reserved, and is more interested in the ‘formal’ aspect of the masquerade. She’s not keen on dancing due to old injuries, but is very interested in conversation and diplomacy, making connections both for the Cell and for the coordinated defense of the Windswept Plateau in general. Despite her smooth and formal demeanor, it’s obvious that she used to be a warrior, both because of her scars and false eyes and by her confident attitude.

Circaea lutetiana

Here's a plant I have so far found it impossible to get a good picture of. Therefore I give you not-so-good pictures of the dramatically-named enchanter's nightshade, Circaea lutetiana canadensis. It's in the evening primrose family and generally grows in deep shade, hence the photography problems. Later in the year, the seeds get caught on my clothes. I should try planting some of those in the garden this fall!

In the first picture it's almost smothered by pale jewelweed, and in the second, there's a mayapple in the background that's not doing that well, and some black snakeroot, Sanicula sp.
