Circus takes over the city for October
Between the 8th and 31st October Bristol’s biennial circus festival will flood the city with a plethora of events and activities with Circomedia acting as the hub for the three week celebration.
The festival, Circus City, has over twenty shows to choose from and also includes a fantastic range of workshops, symposiums and master classes for people to get involved in. There’s even another chance to see our graduates in action again so you can see how our incredibly creative and talented students interpret the unique Circomedia mix of circus and theatre.
At Circomedia we are hosting a number of the shows all of which can be booked onto through our What’s On calendar.
In our St Pauls venue, on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 28th October, there will also be artist breakfasts taking place at 10.15am. This is a time to share thoughts about the festival, to consider ideas and feedback for next time and just to take some time to talk.
We’ll also be hosting a number of workshops based around clowns and power. Details of these exciting workshops and information on how to book can be seen on the What’s On calendar.
There is sure to be something for everyone and we can’t wait for it to get started!
Further information
Circus City 2015, is programming events across venues and outdoor spaces in the city so that a broader range of contemporary circus can be shared with audiences in Bristol, giving both circus-lovers and first-time audiences new perspectives on what circus can be. For more information see the Circus City website
Don’t be fooled by all this clowning around!
Acting the clown is actually a clever way of breaking the rules, playing with people’s expectations, adding a bit of risk and possibly finding your darker side.
As part of Circus City in October, Circomedia is offering a symposium and three intensive workshops that explore Clowns and Power. The programme takes a serious look at an apparently frivolous subject and welcomes experts John Wright, Peta Lily and Bim Mason to lead each of the workshops.
Explore the limitless possibilities of play with John Wright’s Extreme Clowning workshop, or realise the full potential of the dark clown in Peta Lily’s Clown, Dark Clown and Courage workshop.
There’s also a unique opportunity to learn with our very own Artistic Director, Bim Mason, who rarely teaches outside of the School, with his workshop Playing on an Edge, a workshop for those who want to combine comedy with challenge.
