We all know well that domestic workers and other workers in the informal sector are subjected to violence and harassment because of lack of protective measures that renders them vulnerable and unprotected. The following days will be fundamental, and the battle of the amendments is already under way. Negotiations are difficult, as employers do not want a mandatory instrument, as they have shown this morning in the debates held in committee.

But we continue to fight with alongside our partners and allies in unity and solidarity.

This is why we need a strong Convention, accompanied by a Recommendation to address the abuse of all workers in the world of work, including those working in private homes, such as domestic workers.

Just as 2011 was history for domestic workers, let 2018 be the start of freedom from abuse for domestic workers!

Qui sommes-nous dans le monde du travail? Nous sommes des travailleurs domestiques qui travaillent derrière des portes fermées, de hauts murs. Ils nous maltraitent souvent au quotidien et nous n'avons nulle part où aller parce que nous n'avons pas de protections, nous n'avons pas de droits et, parfois, nous n'avons même pas d'identité. Pour nous, une convention et une recommandation forte nous donneront de l'espoir, cela nous donnera l'expérience que nous pouvons aussi sortir et parler, car aujourd'hui, si les travailleurs domestiques parlent au travail, ils perdent souvent leur emploi et l'espoir de leurs familles. Par conséquent, nous devons toujours rester silencieux. Oui, nous avons la Convention 189, mais les recommandations à ajouter à la C189 vont permettre aux travailleurs domestiques de se faire entendre et d'obtenir leur liberté.
