safehalton May 5 is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples. This day, also known as Red Dress Day is recognized as part of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Week of Action.

On this day, and during this week, we honour and remember all missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people.

The dresses are empty, to symbolize the missing and murdered persons who should be wearing them.

Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to be murdered or missing than any other women in Canada.

#GenderBasedViolence is always finding a woman to blame. If she’s a victim, they victim shame her. If he’s a perp, they blame his mom. Female victims with kids, often stay because of them. If they leave with kids, they’re stigmatised within the dating scene. THEY do the right thing all along the way and they suffer with each step they take. Dad is absent dad, abusive husband and doesn’t support her emotionally, washes his hands off kids after divorce or break up and she’s the bitch, the witch, the never good enough weak woman. Then who is he? Why does he get off scott free every wrong step he makes? Where is the justice? The irony of it being Womxn’s Month in South Africa during the month of August - the month where most of these disgusting and heartbreaking crimes took place.

• August 22nd, 2019 - Lynette Volschenk (Murdered and Dismembered)

• August 24th, 2019 - Uyinene Mrwetyana (Raped and Murdered)

• August 30th, 2019 - Leighandre Jegels (Shot dead by her cop boyfriend)

• August 30th, 2019 - Jesse Hess (Murdered)

• September 1st, 2019 - Janika Mallo (14 years old, Raped and Murdered, Dumped in her grandmothers backyard)

Included in the post are Reeva Steenkamp (South African model, Shot dead by her Paralympic Athlete boyfriend Oscar Pistorius) & Courtney Pieters (3 years old, Raped twice and Murdered).

Please repost this and create awareness. Our womxn and children need to be protected. They deserve to feel safe in this world.
