the second that one of their friends had read out mandy's text about not coming out tonnight, river had peeled off from the group, ignoring complaints about how they were gonna be late to the halloween bar crawl as if any of that shit really mattered. she promised they'd meet later and power walked their way to her dorm. it's been a week, give or take a few days since they'd last spoken and while river has resigned herself to accepting that things can't go back to the way they were between them, they've been thinking. a lot. they refuse to be the reason mandy misses out on halloweekend, at the very least, so river makes her way to her door, knocking insistently when she gets there. she's thankful at least that she second-guessed the beetlejuice costume, because being dressed as corky from bound is a lot closer to her own personal style. whatever this conversation is gonna be, she wants to do it while not looking like an idiot. when the door opens, they talk before mandy can tell them to fuck off... which she probably won't, but it's deserved. "why aren't you coming out tonight? good excuses only, because if it's 'cause of me i'll just do something else, cause that's bullshit."
