Society is changing. Everyday I take the BART train into San Francisco and I observe.  I make it a point to watch people and their actions. I would estimate that about 99% of people on the train are disconnected in someway. Their heads tilted down, earphones in and zoned out on who knows what. The main problem I see is that we are training new eyes to emulate us and mirror our actions. Instead of putting a device in your child’s hand to babysit or substitute for talking to your child, spend some time with them. My recommendation for a place to do this is at the Pacific Pinball Museum. Pacific Pinball is a nonprofit dedicated to teaching art, science and history through pinball. Pinball is an important part of American culture and Pacific Pinball is there to keep the spirit and tradition alive. It is the perfect place to bond with your child, teach them as well as giving them the gift of wonderful memories. Take a trip through each of the five full rooms and play your way through history, surrounded by local artwork, classic posters and the sounds of the machines. While working your way throughout the rooms, you feel as if you are in a living time capsule. Pacific Pinball has a rotating collection of 400 machines and is separated by year from the turn of the century machines to the present day. Make sure not to miss the visible pinball machine located in the back.  A fascinating machine, that allows the player to see the mechanics of the operating system as they are playing the game. Classes are offered in the science of pinball and pin game design, history is taught and memories are made over and over again.  The magic is truly present and alive at Pacific Pinball.  Play on and enjoy!

 Craving for a gourmet slice of pizza? Don’t bother to stay in the hotel zone, cause you will only find disappointment. There are a few places in Cancun were you can enjoy an artisanal pizza in a hip ambience. Nestled outside the hotel zone in the most centric part of Cancun, there’s a local pizzeria that serves delicious thin crust pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven. The joint doesn’t need anything else, a rustic open terrace with a natural stone floor, dim candles all over the place and some Kings of Leon in the background, provides the perfect mood to have a pleasant dinner. This spot has become one of my favourites since I arrive to Cancun, everything you eat here is going to be delicious. I highly recommend kicking off with a Scallops Carpaccio, soft sheets of fresh scallops dressed with olive, lime and a dash of balsamic. As for the pizzas they have the classics as Margherita, Pepperoni among others, one of my favourite pizzas and the one I usual order is “La Pizza del Tigre” which is one of their specialties; puffy, light and crispy crust, topped with fresh arugula, black olives, molten goat cheese and Iberico ham that is bewitchingly tasty! To conclude your meal order the homemade Tiramisu, even it is not an authentic tiramisu recipe it has a delightful flavour for those seeking something sweet. There’s only one bad thing I see in this perfect orchestrated spot, their cocktail list is dull and out of personality. Unfortunately the same accounts for their wine list. But if what you are looking for is enjoying an artisanal meal, good music, a cozy atmosphere without being surrounded by the buzz of the hotel zone, you must hit this spot. Exploring an old fishing village @ Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Escape the agitated beaches of Cancun and head to the petite island of Isla Mujeres. At just 8 miles away from Caribbean land, this fishing village has become one of the favourites among locals and travelers because of it’s exquisite natural beauties, serenity and peaceful ambience.

Ferries depart from different ports of Cancun and it will only take you 45 minutes to get through. Once in port you can explore this island by renting a golf cart or a bicycle. Depending on your preference, the golf cart will take you all over the island with minimum effort but if you are into biking, renting a bike will get you a great work out and corners that you can’t go thru with the cart.

The north part is one of the most crowded areas, with local restaurants and powder soft sand beaches that are perfect to just relax and enjoy the tropical weather while having your favourite drink in hand; in my case a refreshing “Bohemia” Mexican beer which is perfect to beat the warm weather. If you’re looking to explore beyond tourist lines, drive through to the south part where you can experience amazing views of the Caribbean along the way that are perfect to snap your favourite “selfie”. At the end of the road you’ll find a light house with a modern restaurant that looks like an old French townhouse that will make you feel as if you just entered to your favourite romantic movie. This spot is perfect to watch the sunset, and around this perfect frame there are colourful and impressive modern sculptures of the Mayan war goddess “Ixchel”, from there you can contemplate the staggering landscape in front of you.

There are quite a few things to do on the island, but one you shouldn’t miss is the turtle’s farm, where you can see thousands of different aged turtles and sea life. Another must is the Garrafon Park, an ecological and natural park where you can jump from a Tyrolean into the turquoise waters, swim with dolphins, explore the underwater life snorkeling or just relax in one of their comfy garden hammocks.

San Francisco | Alamo Square and the Painted Ladies

A common impression of architecture in San Francisco is often tied to the majesty and grandeur of the Golden Gate Bridge, a view that many exuberant San Franciscans will tell you is “the greatest in the world.”  

Architectural styles in San Francisco, however, are as diverse as the people that occupy them; one of the more iconic being the Victorian and Edwardian homes.  With their eclectic and multitude of styles and forms­ Shingle / First Bay Area Style, Spanish Eclectic / Mediterranean Revival, Italianate, Craftsman, Arts and Crafts, Tudor Revival, Queen Anne, Stripped, Carpenter Gothic, Mission Revival, Stick and Stick Eastlake ­Victorian and Edwardians have become a sort of cult celebrity on the San Francisco tourist circuit.

The most iconic of all Victorians and Edwardians, of course, are the Queen Annes of Alamo Square, certainly for their appearance on every single episode of the American Sitcom ‘Full House’. Flocking to the southeast corner of Alamo Square to get a shot of the Painted Ladies and the intricacies of the houses, however, tourists often miss the other architectural beauties of Alamo Square, which include an angle of Sutro Tower to the southwest, the base of Golden Gate Park and the University of San Francisco to the west and Pacific Heights to the north.  Beyond the Ladies there is also a fantastic angle of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, which, at just the right time of day, offers a gorgeously stark contrast of light and shadow.  

So grab something delicious down at Bi­Rite Market on Divisadero Street, and enjoy all of the ladies of Alamo Square, not just the painted ones.

La Glace  |  Copenhagen, Denmark … Have amazing cakes in an old fashioned way

In the heart of Copenhagen lies a small café/confectionary with extraordinary cakes. The special thing about this place is the atmosphere filled with originality and warmth. La Glace offers a wide range of delicious cakes made with care and an eye for detail. If I should come with a personal preference I’ll recommend you to order the ‘Othello lagkage’ or the cake called ‘HC hat’ which is a delicious cake made of caramel! Or if you really want a unique treat you should go for the ‘Sportskage’, which is a specialty of La Glace.

The café is very popular and the cakes are quite pricy, but it is definitely worth the visit if you really want a nice treat - and the place itself is an experience too.

The Brickmakers  |  Vienna, Austria

I walked around the 7th district a lot in the past, but sometimes it happens that new bars, restaurants or shops open without me even noticing it. So when I heard of “The Brickmakers” – which is a 5 minutes walk from me I was kind of surprised that I haven’t seen it. So friends of mine and I went there and seriously I think i never ate better Spare-Rips in my life!

The self-made sauces and the sides were really great, especially the “Granny’s Potato salad” was absolutely delicious. From the interior to the waiters – everything is pretty well thought about. The waiters are also able to bring the best beer for you out of their 150 different tastes.

So, if you ever feel like you need a beer or tasty food in Vienna, go to the Brickmakers. The Pub is in the 7th district – which is totally easy to reach with the U3 (Station Zieglergasse) or the 49 Tram Station Zieglergasse/Westbahnstraße. Enjoy!

Wow this place is huge. Opening night party of 4 and we were placed in the main hall next to some friendly seniors. German ‘oompah house band’ was playing some great tunes and weird covers (Kylie and 100 red balloons etc). Great crowd, excellent host and huge steins of beer!

So great vibe, we booked in for a 6:30 dinner and didn't leave for almost 4 hours because it was so much fun (and it takes a while to drink a few litres of beer).

We ordered a few pretzels ($4 each) and a garlic bread ($6) which were both nice and then started looking for mains. The lamb shoulder was apparently amazing for the meat eaters though as a vegetarian I found my choices very limited. I ended up with the German version of Mac and cheese ($23) but while it was definitely cheesy it was nothing remarkable. For the price tag I felt quite duped.

I think the atmosphere on opening night was excellent - the host and staff did their job amazingly well for a new place and I couldn't fault them at all. But it is expensive ($20 average for a steine) and $25-30 for a main. I wouldn't recommend any vegetarian to go here and while it's great for a group for a show and some drinks I wouldn't come here as a date or a nice night out. It's definitely a bucks party/rowdy birthday kind of place.

Everybody has a day when the only thing they want for lunch is a place where the food is good and place is fun. When I get this urge I automatically think about going to Comicx. This restaurant has a superheroes theme that will enchant even the most serious adult. The walls are filled with life size super hero artifacts that will keep you entertained throughout your meal. If you´re traveling with younger kids they´ll love this place. Forget going to a serious sit down, fancy, cloth napkin kind of a place! Comicx will have all of you enjoying everything they have to offer.

If you´re worried about the food, don´t be! They have all the classics like burgers, pasta, hotdogs, chicken tenders, and more… so much more!!! It´s the perfect spot to surprise your family members with, they will never expect to go to a place that is so much fun.  While you´re there you might also tap into your inner child and have more fun than you´d expect.
