CivicSpark is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address climate change and water management issues in California, administered by the Local Government Commission in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. Kristen Wraith is a Project Manager with the Local Government Commission (LGC). Kristen currently manages CivicSpark, a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address climate change and water resource management issues. Each year, CivicSpark recruits 70 Fellows—50 Climate Fellows, and 20 Water Fellows—who contribute over 80,000 hours of service to help California communities respond to climate change and water management needs. Prior to joining the LGC, Kristen worked on policy advocacy related to water, energy, and workforce development for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). While at the SFPUC, she also managed the implementation of San Francisco’s city-wide Bottled Water Ban Ordinance. In the past, Kristen worked in outdoor education both in the United States and abroad. In her free time, she serves on the Advisory Board of her local community garden. Kristen holds a B.A. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard University.
