Quick update:

thought process under cut: (I do warn you its a bit personal and may contain deeper topics)

dusttale for me was an au i was vaguely aware of for a while. i wasnt very interested in him back then as much as the others (like Killer) but his concept was easy to grasp. For him - i wanted to give off the vibe he's only wearing whats comfortable or what works for him. the multi-layer clothing was an idea I got that was inspired by my down moods where I would always were a bathrobe or something that would wrap around me to feel safe. for Dust, I'd imagine the heavy clothes provide comfort when he's guilty or having an episode.

Looking at the concept of a phantom papyrus now is strangely relatable. Since I myself had episodes of delusions whenever stress got the best of me. Your brain feels like its folding and all you can focus on is a belief of something nonsensical. I'd imagine after an episode, Dust would smoke or do something that would instantly soothe him. Or he'd just nap - maybe stare off into the distance if he was really tired.

His type of smoking is going to be the one ive seen the most. He would roll his own cigarettes which would also act as another way to soothe him. But sometimes he would just get a pre-rolled one if he wasn't bothered. Of course, I myself don't smoke so whatever I say relating to smoking won't be entirely accurate.

As for the infamous papyrus scarf: the drawing below mentions adding it since it could also be part of the "wear for comfort" thing (mentally). But for my au I'd like to think he takes care in his scarf and only wears it depending on the occassion. In battles or easy missions, he wouldn't wear it. But around the castle: he would wear it if he was upset. If he felt like he wasn't coming back from a mission, he'd wear it because he wants to die with paps in a way lol.

I also like the thought of Killer adding cat themed charms onto his stuff even tho he would get tortured by nightmare for it

Nightmare Sans (My take!)

It is currently a work in progress but I'll be posting fully coloured Nightmare alongside the rest of the bad sanses!

Note: This is not meant to mock or mimic any religious symbols or figures nor is it based on any religious symbols or figures.

I am aware of the similarities but every part of the design was purely based on my vision for Nightmare.

That being said: rant time! (Plus concept sketches under the cut)

Nightmare as a design was always an interesting concept for me since the idea of possession always caught my attention (which is ironic since I'm not that interested in Fresh, but I'll get my grubby hands on him eventually - maybe since he wasn't edgy enough for me back then) For Nightmare specifically I liked the nature aspect he was associated with but it was never really shown. I've seen people talk about how Nightmare lets Killer do all the dirty work and I thought: "Why not give him a reason why he needs Killer in the first place?" Thus leading me to nerf the hell out of Nightmare. I'm also going to be adding a Ghost Passive so keep an eye out for that. Nightmare's face is covered because I feel like it adds on to the mystery and uh.. I like it.

My main goal for this design was creepy, ethereal but also weak(? - in the sense where Nightmare seems like he is restricted). I amped up the nature thing overall cause I'm a sucker for overgrowth designs (and they're also fun to draw!) Anyways, here are the concept sketches!

These two were alright. They were based on my sketchbook designs of this concept - but didn't show the 'puppet' thing I wanted. Felt too confident?? Idk I'm just doing this for the vibes. On the right, I was going to have gold weigh down his clothes to prevent it from flowing.

Here I added onto the puppet thing. I REALLY wanted to add onto that but I had trouble coming up with something for the lower half of Nightmare. Also why does it feel embarrassing to add my watermark..

I liked the colours - but then again, the bottom half. It was nice, but the design felt too cluttered, and my mind said "do it like the pro artists and check the silhouette" - and bam, I figured out the reason why. This design made me realise I need to be more purposeful with my shapes. How fun lalala

I want to add the glowing branches into the final design (similar to the one above) but it'll take a bit of work since I'm not the best when it comes to colours. Wish me luck! And if you've read everything, thank you very much!

I had an idea for the corruption to pull a mollusk like dungeon meshi! the branches are there for extra stability trust.

This little guy is very uncoordinated when controlling the body but by itself it is a beast. nontheless brotatochip still needs a body to survive so clumsy nightmare it is!

A reason why for the lack of coordination is cause the corruption is used to being one whole thing instead of controlling multiple parts at once.

But if they were to not have a host, they would "spill" (like gaster i think) and sink back into being a concept instead of a being. The host (nightmare) is basically concentration point - a being that helps the corruption/negativity pinpoint a spot so they can form a conciousness.

I think its cool.. I love this little goober
