PaganFest Montreal!!!!
Ok so i am the Metal director of CIXS The Edge and i was lucky enough to get free VIP pass and an interview With Olli Vanska, the violinist of the band. Let me begin with the line up of this awesome concert. Huntress Arkona Ex Deo ALestrom Turisas That line up is going from opening to headliner. Now Huntress, the opening, was fairly good music wise. Was difficult to hear anything the singer was saying because they were probably still adjusting the sound while they were playing. They weren't that great but they weren't horrible. Although getting towards the end they were pretty good. When their stage time was over, she introduced herself as the band Huntress and said they were coming out with a new album and then played Spell eater, or something like that before running off. Musically and lyrically it was a decent song, not horrible that your ears would bleed, but not good enough to listen multiple times a day. Although, the scariest part of this band is the lead singer. This chick is so fuckn skinny, makes me feel horrible. If i would have known i would told my grandmother to make a big pot of pasta with meat balls and fatten the shit out of this women, her arms are like twigs, and her bust is like the size of cantaloupes. Chick needs to eat more!!!! After them was Arkona. A Russian Pagan band, who is influenced by Russian Folklore and Slavic Mythology. Honest i never heard of this band before that day, and honestly i am ashamed of myself because their music is AMAZING!!!!!! Their music was great, their performance live was fantastic, and their costume cool as heck! Honestly, if you haven't heard of them go listen now!!! Like just the way the music is played, and the strength of the vocals and music as two is live having a musical entity fucking your ears, in a good way. Nothing more i will say, go check them out for yourselves! Ex Deo This band was interesting, i didn't quite enjoy the music, but i won't say it was bad, i think it is just my own taste preference. Although i found it fun when they walked out on stage with Black Gladiator type outfits, the only thing that was missing was the foam swords for a larping battle to begin. Although, i will support this band because they are from Montreal, and honestly you should check out their music as well because well i am not a fan of death metal, and apparently they are labelled as such..... so if you enjoy death metal with a side of gladiator cosplay search them up! Then came Alestorm, and a storm of people litterally pushed everyone. People went crazy for this band. And honestly i understand why, with Pirate lyrics and inspired by sea type folklore. They actually started off 2012 by playing a gig on the 70 000 ton Metal Cruises in the Caribbean, Which is perfect for them because they are pirates!!! Honestly, i knew very little of them before seeing them live, and i am extremely impressed, they were fantastic, although the only thing that ruined it for me was the waves of fuckn people crowd surfing in the venue! Although, can't blame them, i woulda crowd surfed too if i wasn't already in the front row XD. If you do't know them, look them the fuck up. If you like Pirate shit, you will love this, i Recommend the song Sunken Norwegian, a fairly popular song by them. AND NOW TURISAS !!!!!!!! This is the second time i see them live, and i am even more impressed with them. Their music varies from heavy to light, pagan to viking.....but is always amazing. The singer Mathias Nygard knows how to please his favorite fans in Montreal, as well as the rest of the band. They had wonderful chemistry going on.....wtf am i saying this isn't science!!! They were power of the night, even when the music got soft you can feel the power of their gaze, and the voice of Mathias like paralyzing the crowd who are all overcome with awe. I loved the amazing solos that Olli, the Violinist, played. It felt like the equivalent of a Viking god Ensnaring his prey with his music. Oh further more, they have 2 official new members, a bassist and keyboard player. I'll start with Robert Engstrand, who is on the Keyboards. I actually had the opportunity before the show to speak with him as well as several other members. He is a wonderful guy to talk to, i mean they all are but i am focusing on him. He loves Italy, as a vacation area, which i don't blame him, my home country is quite nice and culture, as long as it isn't being trashed by the stereotypical American fake Italians of Jersey Shore. Fun guy, always had a smile on his face, enjoyed my oximoronic sense of humour. Overall great guy, if you see him buy him a beer and have a chat. The second new member, who i was amazed to find out used to play for Ensiferum, Jukka-Pekka Miettinen, or Juk. He is a cool guy, really calm and enjoys the new life he is having with Turisas, which is great because they are fitting in very well with them. His base riffs were awesome, i especially loves it when we would walk around on stage towards Olli or Jussi Wickstrom, the guitarist, and like kinda have a non solo battle. I always noticed that he had a nice big smile on his face, which as a fan is fun to see because not only are we enjoying watching them/ hearing them play, but they enjoy playing for us and are having fun too. Now back to the concert! I actually have to make the rest short because i got a class to go to xD Turisas came back on stage 3 times for encores, the crowd couldn't get enough of them. And played RASPUTIN, BATTLE METAL AND SO MUCH MORE!!!! All the girls were having Orgasms as the guys were happily beating each other up!! The only regret is that the venue imported American Beer Coors Light, which the crowd boooed, and wanted to give the band much better beer! OH and for all Turisas fans Mathias likes HONEY WISKEY!!! If you see him offer this drink, the god will happily accept your offering!!!!
