Okay but hear me out. CJ Flynn has spent the last ten years living with her mom on the east coast. She's had a very normal childhood. She barely understood what was going on when she was ten, and with her mom's love and a lot of therapy she's mostly gotten over being kidnapped as a kid.
Of course...her mom didn't tell her everything. Her mom never mentioned that she was a clone or that her dad was an evil mad scientist who viewed her as replaceable and never really loved her.
What Anne Flynn did tell her was "if you ever get into any trouble, any at all, call this number." CJ has carried that number around in her pocket all her life. She's never had a reason to call it.
Until she's just about to turn 21. She's away at college, and her beloved but overprotective mother always calls too much, so she doesn't answer the first three rings. But then...she notices some guy in the back of her biology lecture. Watching her. And some shady-looking people hanging around outside the lecture hall. And a black SUV parked on the street near her dorm.
She runs. She tries to call her mom, but now her mom's phone is going straight to voicemail. She listens to one of the messages her mom left. All it says is that she's sorry, and her father is coming for her, and to trust no one. Her mom tells her to run, and to call the number.
So she runs. She ditches her phone and she buys a burner with cash and she get somewhere hidden and she doesn't think too hard about why she always has cash on hand and an escape route ready, it's just something her mom always insisted on.
She calls the number. It rings. It picks up, and a voice answers.
"Eppes."
End of episode one.
