Lecture by Professor CJ Lim: "Dreams & Disillusions"_ Thursday 05.12.2024 _ 1.00-2.00 pm _ Keyworth Centre _ Room K-703 _ Photos by: Spyros Kaprinis [05.12.2024].
CJ Lim is the Professor of Architecture & Urbanism at the Bartlett, UCL, and has authored 12 books including his latest ‘Once Upon a China’ and ‘Dreams + Disillusions’ which continue his interest in architectural storytelling.
‘Dreams + Disillusions’ explores the plethora of ideas and ideologies that have shaped and reshaped architecture and cities in profound ways. Its research fluctuates between the world of concrete reality and the multiple universes that exist in lucid prose, poetic visions, and the outrageous imaginations of history’s most (in)famous minds. The six chapters reveal dreams that underpin the stories of the many urban lives; and how, through circumstance, manipulation, or planned perfection, desires are sometimes left defeated and disillusioned. With 18 illustrated speculative case studies and over 150 drawings, the book presents an abundance of curious imaginings, diverse provocations and satirical criticism.
Here are some of my doodles that follow the style of CJ Lim drawings somewhat, plus a copy of a backdrop from the Nausicaa Manga (I really love Nausicaa)

Currently I am working on a portfolio exploring the work of CJ Lim, the architect, and Richard Wright, the 2019 Turner prize winner.
It is outwardly a really cool project, but the work is quite unstructured, and a bit overwhelming, so my scattered ass isn't enjoying it as much as I would like to.
