The first time I saw them was in the medbay. The report said that the group that went with the General on that mission found him and decided to bring them back to base. She was covered in injuries that were infected. But that's not what caught my eye. No it was the fact that he looks exactly like her. Down to the fact that the kid had horns created by some sort of GUI, similar to the one we use in the army. Exactly like hers.
I helped make sure they got back on their feet. I helped him with medications, with the different types of therapy she needed.
When he recovered enough, she became an official member of the army. Going through the trainings, learning what needs to be done. I thought that maybe this kid would be a cool person. That maybe they would do good.
I was fucking stupid to think that.
At first, when we tested what he could do, and where they would work best, she scored best working with the office departments, like HR. That's fine, not everyone is suited for the battlefield. Some are more suited for stealth, or working in base. He then ended up in HR. In the same office that was hers. I just thought, ok, coincidence.
As time went on, more things showed up. Doing the exact same work as her. Getting her old dorm room.
I tried to talk to them. I wanted to know more about him. I was pushed away. I was told that she wasn't a kid. To stop acting like he was my child. That was the first time I ever actually tried to interact with them since she joined.
The last straw was the assigned number.
A number that was supposed to be retired. Because it was hers. Because she was KIA. And it was stolen by a replacement that's been treated as a second-in-command.
Oaklynn. I don't give a flying FUCK about how hard you work here. You are nothing but a replacement for the one who was killed by the admins during a lockdown. For the original 124. For my daughter.
