Swindon Cricket Club is working hard to develop young cricketers and to mark this achievement SCC had invited Hamish Marshall (New Zealand Cricket Player 2000-2007) to present the award to young cricketers.
we caught up with Hamish after the ceremony for a quick chat and asked him question that were given to us by our youngsters.
What sport did you play as a kid other than cricket?
Rugby was the sport I loved when I was a kid, but as you can see I am not a big lad so i got hooked on to cricket as size did not matter.
Toughest opponent you have known or faced ?
Australians! Shane Warne and Glen Mcgrath were a deadly combination and gave me a tough time.
What is it like to play in front of a massive a crowd?
Its great! Atmosphere is what makes the game sometimes. We try and entertain the crowd but if you aren't doing that then its gets tough.
Where did you take your most painful blow as a batsman?
I am sure every man knows where that is. But to be honest, I got hit on my ribs and was rolling on the pitch in agony. I cannot hide my pain like some of the other cricketers.
Have you been out on a golden duck?
Yes, recently when the the game was shown live on TV which is really embarrassing.
When did you start playing cricket?
Cant remember. We played cricket on the farm for hours and hours and I guess it just developed from then on.
When do you feel you had your first breakthrough?
At age 13 I was selected in 1st eleven at school. I scored 35 not out and my partner scored 180+. I stood firm in my crease to support my partner.
Taunton is intimidating, they give you a lot of grief but fav is Cheltenham. The atmosphere at cheltenham, the crowd and support is great.
1st test hundred against Aussies.
Big fan of Mark waugh and outside of cricket its Andre Agassi.
Funniest dismissal whilst batting?
Got hit in the helmet and i fell back on my stumps and also when i left the ball of a leg spinner thinking its going wide and he bowled me round my leg.
Funniest Sledging you have heard?
" I have seen better batters in my fish and chip shop"
