When I'm sad, I look at my instrument and think "what am I doing? Happiness is right here."

I'm starting to learn that no matter how humble you are, people will claim you are pretentious. No matter how hard you worked to succeed, people will look at you with jealousy in their hearts. No matter how many times you have cried after playing and practicing to the point your mouth is bleeding and your fingertips are sore, people will try to destroy your self esteem, even fellow musicians. When has music become a competition? I'm starting to understand how absurd it is to try to make everything music related a competition. I wish people would just play for themselves. Play because you love doing it. Why, fellow musicians, have we come to a point where we look at other musicians with jealousy and hatred? Why do we want to see them fall apart and fail? Why do we not celebrate their success? And why do we not celebrate our own improvement? When has music become about hatred? It's okay to have rivals and to want to be the best, but that shouldn't consume us. If we let it, the only room in our hearts is jealousy. We should celebrate everyone's success and congratulate them on a job well done. And we should celebrate our own success. Never lose sight of what is important. Do music for yourself. Do music for those who smile when you play. Do music for those who are proud of you and how far you have come.

so my band director is on a trip with the middle school music kids and we don't even have a sub... two flutes are playing with a spool of thread and throwing packets of hot sauce at everyone a flute and trumpet are cuddling a horn has all her scales memorised and is playing them on repeat the guitar and percussionist are goofing off with xylophones the rest of the low brass is playing on their phones and being quiet for once and the clarinet here is lying on chairs contemplating on how this band class is really boring right now...
Holy shit
