I miss Clairelyds so bad, I need to get into them again.

The thing I always found interesting about opposites attract is not only how they’re different, but how much they’re alike.

While writing I’m always asking myself “what strengths does this one have that the other may not? How does one fill in where another is weak?”

But also, I love to ask what these two incredibly different people would have in common or agree on. What would that take for that to happen? Could they agree on one thing for different reasons?

All that is just a concept I can really sink my teeth into and go as deep as I want with it, and for a lesbian writer that’s a damn playground.

It really is a shame that Claire never got more depth as a character, and that the whole “I’m not like other girls” mindset is both the creation of her character and the attitude people hold against her, because I would love to see what happens if more people give her strengths and recognize likable aspects about her.

okay, walk with me. Clairelyds au where they reunite in college as assigned roommates. Lydia, who spent her whole adolescence almost exclusively friends with the undead doesn’t have the social skills to properly function as an adult and Claire who was pressured so heavily to conform ever since she was little that she’s lost herself. Claire who secretly admires Lydia for living so honestly, and gives her a helping hand when she notices her roommate struggling (she feels guilty for picking on Lydia when they were kids and wants to make up for it). Lydia who has always been skilled at seeing the good in people, finds the cracks in her roommate’s mean girl persona endearing and wants to become closer. Claire who adopted an obsession with conformity at a young age to mask that she likes girls, and slowly begins to fall for her roommate. Lydia who, despite living fearlessly hides her paranormal double life from Claire, even when they’ve become official because she doesn’t want to lose her. Claire who knows Lydia is hiding something, but doesn’t have the guts to confront her. Worms are eating my brain
