Prior to the mills being built along the Monongahela River, in the early 1900's Clairton was the site of Central Park, a large riverside amusement park on the Wylie farm, where wealthy Pittsburghers and other people in the area came to dance and have fun. Once the mills bought up the riverside property, and just like that the park was gone. It included the Union Grove, a dancing pavilion, an open dining room, and possibly even a merry-go-round, Another site was later located to become Clairton Park, which to this day remains one of the finest and most beautiful picnic and outdoor areas in the greater Pittsburgh area. The park sat where the blast and open-hearth furnaces stand today.
This was the site of D&D Body Shop! I can't find any info on it. You can see the building still said "Service" on it. Later it became a trucking company and then CRA Clairton Recycling Associates. Now the building is freshly gone to expand the sewage plant.
The first picture is of Peters Creek Cemetery, located on State Street, back in 1947.The next is how it appears today. For many years this cemetery was ran by the Pine Run Methodist Episcopal Church (still here today). In the year 1890 Most of it was dug up for room for additional railroad tracks. The oldest grave plot still there is inscribed "Benjamin Kuykehndal died August 12, 1802 Age: 64 Years".
