I think Ghost is the type of person that would die for the few people he truly loves. Like, he probably wouldn't say it out loud to them but he honestly doesn't has to because they know. Soap knows.
So when Soap and Ghost are out on a mission and it goes horribly wrong-it is only the two of them left and no one's gonna come for them because HQ has decided it's too risky to send help-Soap tells Ghost to be careful and to not do anything stupid.
"I know you would die for me, LT."
And Simon isn't even bothered that Soap is seeing right through him. In the past, he had been, but not anymore.
"You might be right with that, Johnny," is his simple answer. And when Soap now speaks up once more, reaching out for Ghost’s hand to take it into his own while doing so, his voice is firm at first, but quickly gets softer, a somewhat desperate undertone accompanying especially the last words that leave his lips, "I know I'm right. But I don't want you to die for me ... I want you to live for me. I would be sad if you were gone, even if you died protecting me."
And Ghost isn't sure how to respond to that.
He is at a loss for words because he had never really thought about how anyone would feel if he died. He never had expected anyone to be sad, but now... Soap was saying he would be sad. And Ghost doesn't want him to be. Not now but also not in the future.
"Well," Ghost then finally decides to answer, his following words the reason a soft reassured smile begins to spread across Soap's face, "Guess I have to live then."
