do you have a favorite (and least favorite) LMM adaptation? my favorite has to be the Sullivan adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, mainly because it's the one I grew up with and watched religiously as a kid haha
I also love the Sullivan Anne!!!!! Megan Follows is still the definitive Anne face for me in many ways, and I do love how much that production strove to capture the natural beauty of PEI that we love so much from the books. I think my one complaint about it now is that it relies a little heavily on the sense of sentimentality that the worst of Maud's legacy evokes. I have also forgotten the quality of the spin-offs, though I do remember at least liking the parts of Anne teaching in the sequel, even if I always hated that none of her college adventures--or college friends--were depicted!
More recently, I discovered the 1976 BBC Anne of Avonlea adaptation (the AOGG adaptation with the same cast has been lost, I think), which I also like a good deal. It manages to capture a lot of LMM's humor and absurdity, where Sullivan's largely relies on drama. It also gives us a little bit of AOI plot, including Phil, Roy, and Patty's Place, which is fantastic as long as you can stomach half the cast's atrocious Canadian accents (the actresses who played Anne and Marilla were Canadian, but many of the other side characters were played by Brits, and it shows). I also think Mr. Harrison is the best character of the whole production--the actor absolutely captured the absurd and delightful friendship between him and Anne (though--tragically--we don't get any scenes from the "Averils Atonement" episode).
My absolute least favorite is, of course, the Emily of New Moon series. I hated the casting (maybe with the exception of Perry) and thought that the writing completely failed to capture either the brutal realism of the storyline, or the sensitive, gothic brilliance that makes Emily herself such a brilliant heroine to follow. Typically, they butchered Dean Priest. The less said about all this the better lol.
