Good morning everyone! Let's learn words! i dont usually talk so uhm... proper but my best friend in the whole world is a trans boy and so this one is really important, kay? please dont get mad, just try to let me break this down as kindly as possible! and if you're really really super against what i say, uh.... block button is right there, have fun pressing it! :p
oooookay, here goes. and this is all fact checked, promise! you can find all this yourself too!
Phobia (suffix) - the fear of something
Transphobia - the fear of trans people
Transmisia - the hatred of trans people
Gynophobia - the fear of women (clinical term)
Androphobia - The fear of men (clinical term)
Misogyny - Hatred, prejudice or mistreatment of women
Misandry - Hatred, prejudice or mistreatment of men. Though unfortunatly co-opted by MRAs, it was originally meant to be non-systemic.
Transmisogyny - The intersection between Transphobia and Misogyny. You can assume how these two work together to target Trans Women and Transfeminine people.
Therefore, with all of this knowledge, at its core, Transandrophobia is a completely harmless way to talk about the fear and prejudice against Transmasculinity. Transandromisia is a completely harmless way to talk about the hatred of Trans Men and Transmisandry, while held down with the unfortunate history of Misandry being co-opted by MRAs (Men's Rights Activists - .... i'd prefer if you went and looked that one up on your own </3) and those who wish to paint men as above all and uniquely targeted by societal forces is a fundamentally harmless way to talk about the hatred, predjudice and mistreatment of Trans Men. By shutting down all of this language as soon as you see it and seeing it as an attack, you're essentially proving the point those in good faith are trying to make about the issues they often face that go unnoticed or unchecked.
Now, just like any other term, there will be people who use it wrong and maliciously, that does not make the term itself malicious, though! In fact, there are quite a few people that use the term Transmisogyny the same harmful way others claim Transandrophobia is exclusively being used. It's almost like no one group of queer or trans person is perfect, or incapable of harm, and its all on an individual basis!
Takeaway: Trans Men and Transmasculine people talking about their issues using these terms is not a slight against any other part of our community, it is not a hate movement against Trans Women. It is valid language even if some may be bad actors using the terms to get away with harassing others.
Tell your local trans person you love them, love every trans person, especially right now and please, give them a bit more room to breathe before assuming the worst.
