You may have noticed recently I have really been focusing on my skincare routine and trying out new products. I have become obsessed with toners and clarifying lotions because they improved my skin the most over the past couple months. So today I want to share my favourite with you all, the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 for Combination/Oily Skin, £24.00.

The Clinique Clarifying Lotion has been the biggest game changer in my skincare routine helping improve my texture and balance my oily skin. Clinique are amazing for releasing different versions of their skincare products to suit all skin types, typically I use 3 in all their ranges because it's for oily / combo skin types.

Let's chat in more detail about the lotion, it is designed to be a exfoliating dermatologist-developed liquid lotion that sweeps away pollution, excess oil and dulling flakes to reveal fresher skin. It's crazy because it's such a easy step in my routine and yet it makes all the difference. You can use this product twice a day if you have oily / combo skin and you simply apply the lotion with a cotton ball, sweeping gently over face and neck.

I adore this product and can really see the difference it has made to my skin. After using it I then apply my moisturiser and my skin feels amazing afterwards, almost like it's had a facial. For the past few years I have really focused on skincare in my beauty routine, though I've always loved trying out new products I think I finally found what my skin actually needs and what works for me! In the pic above you can see my bare complexion with no makeup and honestly I'm so happy with how far my skin has come!

Today I want to chat about one of the new editions to my skincare routine and honestly I think it's made the most difference, so today we are chatting about the Clinique Clarifying Lotion , £22.00. I have adored Clinique skin care since my teens and when I'm not using Tilbury I'm obsessively using this brand. This lotion is designed to be an exfoliating dermatologist-developed liquid lotion that sweeps away pollution, excess oil and dulling flakes to reveal fresher skin.

It's honestly crazy how adding once step to your routine completely changes your complexion. If like me you have oily combo skin I was advised to use this twice a day as exfoliation helps minimize excess oil and keep pores clear. I can honestly say I have noticed a massive difference with my complexion since using this product, my skin doesn't get as oily so quickly now which is a miracle in itself and my face is so much smoother making my makeup look 10x better. I typically use this step after face wash and before moisturiser, I find using a product like this removes even more dirt from your skin that you didn't even notice was there, honestly it's crazy.

There are different version of this lotion depending on your skin type, I personally use version 2 which is for oily combo skin types but if I can't get it I use 4 which is combo skin types. Both versions work amazingly for me and though it exfoliates your skin, it doesn't feel like it's stripping your skin of hydration or making it feel rough. I couldn't recommend more to be honest. Recently I have been using toners and clarifying lotions in my skincare routine and now it's been a while I can honestly say that has helped my skin out so much! Typically my skin isn't that bad but of course we all get hormonal breakouts but since using these products I feel like I get less breakouts and my oily combo skin is so much better. So today I'm gonna be sharing some favourites with you all!

Let's start off with our affordable option The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution 240ml £11.50. I am very new to using The Ordinary skincare products and this is one item I was recommended to try a lot and honestly I get why. First of all, it is incredibly affordable if you are looking for a high impact product at a low price point. This toning solution focuses on being a  mild exfoliant for improved skin radiance and visible clarity.This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use which makes this product very unique. Recommended to be used once a day ideally in the evening, I love how fresh this product makes my skin after a day of heavy makeup.

Next up we have one of my ultimate favourites, the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 for Combination/Oily Skin , £24.00 . I have been obsessed with this for a while now and honestly think it deserves more hype. In Cliniques range every skincare product has 4 versions depending on your skin type which I love because you can make it more unique to your skin type. This product is called a Clarifying Lotion rather than a toner and focuses more on being an exfoliating dermatologist-developed liquid lotion that sweeps away pollution, excess oil and dulling flakes to reveal fresher skin. Out of the 3 options I feel like this one cleans my skin the best and gives it a real deep clean. This lotion can be used twice a day and I love using it for makeup prep especially because my skin is so soft and smooth every time I use it ,making my makeup apply so much better.

Lastly we have my very luxury option which is of course Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner , £40.00. Again this toner is quite unique compared to the previous 2 as this focuses on being a Pore-refining, acid-free hydrating toner with niacinamide for baby soft, smooth feeling skin and pores that appear reduced. It also leaves your skin with a gorgeous glow that makes your skin even more healthy looking. I love using this toner when I want my skin to have a bit more of a glow. If you have dry/ combo skin I feel like you'll enjoy this the most. Also if you have sensitive skin (always check the ingredients) you may like the fact that this toner is acid free too.

Using toners and clarifying lotions has really changed my skincare and made my complexion improve so much over the past 6-8 months. I'm alive... Just barely: Clinique Clarifying Lotion Product Review

I've been trying to stay afloat in all the waves of assignments and tests I've been having lately that I've barely had time to sleep, let alone do reviews. I do have some downtime tonight after a (surprise to me) test today. Anyways, here is my product review of one of my current toners: the Clinique Clarifying Lotion

Price: $16 CAD/200mL in Clinique Canada online

I ran out of Biotherm Clarifying Lotion so I thought I would try the Clinique Clarifying Lotion. The lotion comes in a giant pump bottle, where you can put a cotton pad on top and push down to get the liquid on the pad, which is pretty cool and the lid makes it feel more sanitary. However, I usually keep a sample-sized bottle in the bathroom instead of the giant bottle instead just to keep the bathroom neater. For $20, the price is pretty awesome, seeing as if you tried to buy a similar bottle (no product) at Sephora, the price is like, $10.

The clarifying lotion is different from old fashioned toners in that it is suppose to help restore the natural acidic pH of your face (sometimes this is called an “exfoliating toner”). However, it means that when I put it on my face on open wounds from popped pimples, it burns. It also smells like alcohol so when I swipe it on my upper lip, it causes the inside of my nose to sting as well. The lotion does do its job of removing any soap residue from my face but it does make my face feel really dry after. I do use a second toner afterwards that is gentler (Sekkisei Lotion by Kosé), which I can swipe around the area of my eyes without fearing I would blind myself in the process, and have still found a little bit of gross-ness.

Pros: Pretty cheap, pump with lid makes it sanitary; (apparently) gentle exfoliation, ok at doing its job

Cons: Can’t use on open wounds, makes my face feel dry, smells like alcohol, can’t use too close to my eyes

Verdict: I would rate this product a 3/10. It’s a toner that does its job, but I definitely won’t buy it again unless I’m really desperate. Since this is the first exfoliating toner I have tried (to my knowledge), I want to test other “exfoliating” toners as well to see if they all have similar qualities.
