Where Have All the Clark County Democrats Gone?
2018 is quickly approaching and with it a question seemingly being whispered on repeat around Clark County: where has the Clark County Democrat Party gone?
It’s true, they have suffered major defeats at the hands of the Clark County Republican Party and its candidates (Mayor Mike Moore, Sheriff Jamey Noel, 6 of 9 Jeffersonville City Council seats, the majority of county offices, not to mention the Congressman for Indiana’s 9th District calling Jeffersonville home) but they must still have a presence . . . right? A few young and upcoming candidates . . . right?
Well, as we enter the final month of 2017, it does not seem that any of those things are true. Clark County Democrats saw their best hope in Joshua Rodriquez disappear with his shocking and unexpected death earlier this year. After his death, the Party infrastructure was left in shambles with no clear line of succession in place.
In politics, there is a very simply mantra: to the incumbent goes the advantage.
With that in mind, you would think that a few 2018 races would be securely in the Democrats’ win column. Unfortunately, this isn't the case because the few Democrat incumbents that actually exist are horrific and it does not appear that there is anyone waiting in the wings to make a respectable run for the number of open seats (and potential GOP challenges).
Who knows . . . maybe the Clark County Democrats will get together and actually put together a game plan for 2018. Yeah, you’re right. Probably not.
