So I just found an audition for a production of Bride of Frankenstein. It's unique in that they're going to be using actual sound bytes from the movie and the actors will be lip-synching. For the audition they're asking the people to come in with a sound clip memorized, and they'll lip sync it for the audition (a live dubsmash? haha!) It's different than anything I've ever done before so I was wondering if you had any advice!
In this case, it’s going to be all about character and physicalization! Really finding unique ways to create the chaacter visually on stage! And actually, lip-syncing can be hardier than it looks. To make it look real, that is! So actually do practice that aspect of it. Try actually saying the words out loud so you can feel how your mouth forms those words, and go from there!
are you familiar with Pirate Queen?? a theatre around where I live is doing it next year and I have no idea what vibe it is or what kind of characters there are in it.
a little bit yeah!! i’ve never seen it but i’ve listened to the music and know a bit about the story. it’s claude-michel schönberg and alain boublil so the music is in a similar style to les mis. basically what i know is it’s about a girl who dresses up as a boy to sneak onto a ship and she wants to prove that women should be just as valued as men. also they are irish.watch part of these two videos to get the feel for it!
woman
here on this night
i also suggest listening to boys’ll be boys since it’s one of the more upbeat songs.
washington stereotype: everything is green and it rains all the time and Seattle is full of artistic free souls and a wall covered in gum.
The gum wall is so gross but also such a masterpiece.

I'd definitely agree that Leslie is a Gryffindor because as ambitious as she is, she's driven more by her fierce bravery than by her desire for power. She's not power hungry. Tom is DEFINITELY a Slytherin (resourceful, ambitious, more cunning). Ben is SUCH a Hufflepuff. For kicks and giggles I'd probs put Donna in Ravenclaw, Andy in Gryffindor, April in Hufflepuff (she'd be an evil Hufflepuff but she's SO loyal to her friends) Ann in Ravenclaw, and Chris in Hufflepuff. Thoughts? Agree/disagree?
Yeah, exactly about Leslie! Okay, full list:
Leslie - Gryffindor
Ben - Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff
Ann - Ravenclaw
Andy - Hufflepuff (although Gryffindor works too)
April - I think I agree on Hufflepuff, actually. I’m not sure though.
Tom - Slytherin
Ron - Gryffindor
Donna - Slytherin
Chris - Hufflepuff
Jerry - Another Hufflepuff, although really he’s probably a Squib
I think there’s so many Hufflepuffs (or characters I’d sort somewhere else but they could easily also work as Hufflepuffs) is because that’s what the show prioritizes. Like Leslie said: friends, waffles, work.
This is slightly less relevant, but we used Vodka during our set build to get the dried paint off of our hands (we had it in a little spray bottle). We also used it to mix some paints for specific texture. It has many uses in theatre :)
Huh, interesting!
Following up on my ask, I don't have much trouble with my napkin because a lot of what I do is just in expressions, the story comes more naturally (There's a girl in the castle! We might be human again!) so it's a lot easier to find motivation. I double as a villager too (in Belle, Gaston, and the Mob Song) and that's where I'm having trouble deciding what idiosyncrasies to have an understanding what my motivation is, you know? I feel like I'm still just me on stage, not a character :)
Ahhhh. I’d say try to find out what kind of villager you are--who is your best friend, who do you root for, who do you hate, who do you have a crush on, who did you buy your dress from, who did you get your bread from? That will help to specify your relationships with the other people on stage. Then as for your energy on stage, think about what it’s like to be singing with Gaston--are you drunk, are you sober, what do you think of the bar tavern place? In the village scenes, how long has your day been? Have you been walking around all day, or did you just walk out the door? What else have you got planned? Did you just see somebody you were trying to avoid? Do you have pent up hatred towards Belle or do you feel kind of bad for her? Who is at home waiting for you? Figure out all of that stuff, and the villager’s life will start to flesh out just like the napkin’s!
