WHEN IN ROME I: PALAZZO ALTEMPS
The statuary and portrait busts of the Museo Nazionale Romano are installed in the 15th-century Palazzo Altemps. Also on view are the antiquities from the 17th-century collection of Cardinal Ludovico Ludovisi, including the Ludovisi Throne and the Roman copy of the Dying Gaul Warrior and Wife from Pergamon. Close the Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, the Palazzo Altemps offers objects similar in quality to those of the Vatican in a compact space usually free of crowds in a more congenial part of the city.
