im writing a character sketch for a class with the topic being anyone, anything, or anywhere. i chose diego velasquez. no regrets. reading this man's biography has me impressed. i mean this guy married his master's daughter, became a court painter for the king of spain after the previous one died, and continued painting common folk and slaves even when he was criticized for it. and put himself in the same painting where he painted the king's daughter. wow

John Joseph of Austria

John of Austria (1629-1679) was the son of Philip IV and the celebrated Madrid actress María Inés Calderón, known as La Calderona. Recognized by his father in 1642, he was given a household as an Infante of Spain and, the following year, appointed governor and captain-general of the Provinces of Flanders. In March 1647, the king granted him the title of "Prince of the Ocean Sea," which entailed command of the naval forces.
