What About My Weight?
What About My Weight?
Thank you to those of you who sponsored my weight loss when the San Dieguito Heritage Museum crowdfunded through RocketHub a couple months ago. My progress has been slower than I expected, but I am down from 299.5 pounds. Just today I weighed myself on the same scale at L.A. Fitness and I’ve dropped 8 pounds in a little under 4 months. As soon as I finish this post I’ll be getting ready for our…

It might be spring, but today certainly doesn't feel like it. I took Percy for a walk and it's grey and blech and now he's conked out on the floor. It's tempting to join him! So today, along with the usual Classical Stretch and Bendy Body, I started using my new Delilah workshop DVDs. They were made in the 80s and they're awesome (as long as you can stand a bit of woo-woo, otherwise skip the warm up). I have a massage scheduled for this afternoon but my masseuse's baby is overdue, so she might go into labor and have to cancel on me. Oh well, having a baby is probably a bigger deal than my massage. ;-) In other news, I raided my local library for make-ahead cookbooks so I can just pop things in the oven before I go to class and come home to a home-cooked dinner. I'll let you know when I find some good recipes. Eating at home makes a huge difference in how I feel (and look).
Day(s) in the Life of a Belly Dancer
Thursday, March 19, 2015 - Saturday, March 21, 2015
Well, the end of this week was really busy! On Thursday and Friday, I did Classical Stretch episodes and segments of Bendy Body. On Friday, I added a Jamila class online (gettin’ my zil on!). Thursday is another back-to-back class day for me and it’s also my tribal day, which is a lot of fun. I’m trying to really pay attention so I’m ready to perform with them next month. Skirts arriving next week! I’ll definitely need to share photos. :-)
I took another two classes Saturday and I’m seriously thinking about dropping one of them. I really enjoy the class I take at one studio (we worked with candles Saturday which is really cool) but the other studio’s class doesn’t really do it for me. The emphasis is on constantly learning a stream of choreographies that I don’t really even like all that much without giving much attention to technique. The only reason I’ve stayed in the class as long as I have is that I like the other students, but it may be time to collect some phone numbers and GTFO.
Anyway, we’ve had gorgeous weather recently so I’m going to get out and enjoy it! Hope your upcoming week is fantastic!
Day in the Life of a Belly Dancer
Wednesday, March 18, 2015
Practice: Started the day off by dragging my pup around the neighborhood. It was cold and wet and grey and one of those mornings where other people just aren’t out and about. Just me and my crazy Perceval. Followed that up with Classical Stretch Season 8: Episode 16, Colette Todorov’s ATS Fast 1 (zils!) from Datura Online, and Section 3 of Bendy Body. I don’t do all of Bendy Body at once because it’s an hour and fifteen minutes, so I try to do a section each day.
I just started tribal this session so it’s the first time I’ve had a class where we actually do zils on a regular basis. Thankfully, I’d been practicing at home, but I still need work, especially combining more intricate zil patterns and movements.
Classes: I have two classes on Wednesdays at different studios, so my evenings are pretty busy! In the afternoon I prepped some Spaghetti Squash Carbonara so that my husband could get it in to bake and have it ready when I got home at 8:30.
Other stuff: Meditated and painted my nails purple with Butter London’s Toff. Oh and went to the grocery store and took the dog on another walk so he wouldn’t flip out during the overlap in time when I’m in class and my husband hasn’t gotten home yet. He has a penchant for destroying anything paper when left alone (the dog, not the husband).
tuonela:
The famous duet "Au fond du temple saint" from the opera The Pearl Fishers. The genius of Georges Bizet, interpreted by pianist Benjamin Loeb and violinist Livia Sohn. I've used the heart of the piece, without the introduction and the coda. Six and a half stretches of differing chemistry, mixed with love (this was my mother's favourite piece of music). Such music reminds us that it is a privilege and sometimes a joy to be alive, even in an often ugly and senseless world. Well, I hope it does...
