Playing around with a painting after Velázquez I did last year. My 5 yr old and I have just been arguing whether she’s asking for “more, more, more” or just chewing?! The main painting shows a section of the once lost ‘Retrato de niña’ o ‘Joven Inmaculada’ (‘Portrait of girl’ or ‘Young Immaculate’) which recently sold at auction in Madrid for €8 million. If silence is the canvas for music, then my music is a tribute to it. It’s about the existential space, time and energy ‘in between’ the notes and sounds - which makes music possible. Otherwise, everything would be just noise. And that is also what the music invokes inside myself. It creates a peaceful oasis in between all my inner feelings and thoughts, so I can breathe (again). I’m very grateful many of my listeners have a similar experience.
