Can you guess what year this is from? You’re probably thinking mid- to late-1800s. You’d be wrong.
You see, this is a trick question. It’s an old picture of people dressing up in even older costumes. So even though it looks like it’s from the bygone era of the 1800s, it’s actually from the bygone era of the 1900s. Tricky, right?
This picture is from the 1911-1912 academic school year and depicts the Class of 1913 dressed for their play: “She Stoops to Conquer.”
So...I’d really like to know the plot of this play. She stoops to conquer? Is she a giant? Can she not conquer standing up?
Or do they mean stooping in an ethical sense?
So many questions...
