Dr. Carl Clauberg, a doctor in Auschwitz, was responsible for other racially related medical experiments. These experiments included the exploration of artificial insemination as well as sterilization. Clauberg had been successful in treating an SS officer’s wife’s infertility, so Heinrich Himmler gave him special orders to conduct fertility experiments in order to increase the fertility of a German individual. He reported told his female prisoners that he had, “inseminated their wombs with animal sperm and that monsters were growing in their wombs,” (Cohen). Himmler then asked Clauberg to find a cheap, efficient way to reverse his fertility experiments by researching ways to sterilize mass amounts of the “impure.” This included, but was not limited to, directly injecting substances into the cervix or uterus of female prisoners which lead to inflamed ovaries and severe abdominal pain and bleeding (Cohen). These efforts related back to creating the “master” race and making sure there was no interference in the purity of the new, Aryan bloodline.
