what goes behind your writing process (whoever wants to answer)
HEHE I’ll take this one. But it’ll be a bit longer so I’m gonna put a read more thing on it LOL
Whenever I get an idea for a fic, I write it down on a google doc in its most basic form, just so I can remember it. Most of the time I’ll roll it around in my head and poke at it to see if it has potential, and if I think it does, I move on to the next step >:3
Next step is writing an outline. For me personally, I like to try and stay relatively vague with my outlines to give the story room to move as I’m writing. If you write yourself into a rigid box with your outline, you can start to feel trapped. And sometimes, you might get a better idea on where the story could go while writing it!
As for actually writing it, I use a software called Obsidian, though I mainly like it for its Focus settings and organization. I have a brief summary of what happens in the chapter at the top and continually refer to it, and I’ll sometimes break it into chunks, like this:
Sonic POV, scene where he asks Shadow to dance
Shadow POV, tells Sonic no and runs away
Sonic POV, goes back to Tails and is sad :(
And that just helps to break it into smaller, more manageable pieces for me.
Finally, when I finish a chapter, I’ll do a quick spell check and then I send it to some friends, who beta-read for me. They’ll leave comments which I read, and then I edit more as necessary. To finalize it, I put it into a text-to-speech thing and listen for any errors or sentences that sound weird!
This is where I might deviate from the norm😅, because I actually finish my fics in their entirety before posting anything, instead of posting a new chapter as soon as it’s done. This is for a few reasons, though the main reason is to remove outside pressure. If people are waiting for a fic and I’m having a bad week and can’t work on it, I start to feel really guilty. It also makes it really easy to upload on a consistent schedule!
Ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference. I do it this way because writing fics should be enjoyable and mostly stress-free, and for me, this is how I make it work. You could pick and choose strategies from other people and build your own process that works for you!
This ended up being a Lot longer than i thought it would be. Ummm sorry hopefully this answers your question 😭
