Claxton’s Arran 21 yo 1996.

Arran distillery which is located on the Isle of Arran is a relatively new Distillery having only been established back in 1994 with the first spirit running in 1995..

Although a young distillery the whisky that is being produced is certainly gaining a lot of plaudits, good quality whisky is not always guaranteed but this distillery  certainly seems to be doing it right.

Macduff 14yo, Single Cask, Claxtons.

You would be forgiven if Macduff is not a name on the tip of your tongue, this distillery was founded quite recently in the terms of distillery history, founded in 1962 by Marty Dyke, George Crawford and Brodie Hepburn the distillery first produced spirit in 1963.

Today the distillery is owned by John Dewar and Son ( Bacardi ) and has a capacity of around 3.3 million litres of alcohol per year…

Claxton’s Orkney single cask.

As with a few single cask releases from independent bottlers these days the distilleries are asking them to withhold  the identities and / or “teaspooning “ the casks ( this involves adding literally a “teaspoon” or a small amount of  whisky from a different distillery to stop this being classed as a single malt )

In this case the Distillery in question has obviously asked Claxtons to withhold…

Ledaig 9 yo (Claxtons)

Another new expression to come from the chaps at Claxtons for 2017 is this single cask offering from Ledaig.. At 9 years of age and coming from a single hogsheads I’m expecting to  find all the things that are good about the Tobermory distillery..

Bottled in the usual Claxton style of NO Colour and NCF, this comes  from a single cask and is bottled at  a cask strength of 53.3% aabv ..
