Clyde and Molly Coulter welcomed their second-born, and only boy on August 9th 1951. Clayton grew up on the family peach farm. By the time he was 2, he was spending his evenings with his Dad helping fill wicker baskets. It's where he learned to crawl, walk, eat solid foods, and count. The farm was the center of his young life.
School, peach farm, church. Any little free moment Clayton had was spent with his future wife, Violet Lynch. The couple married the month after Violet's 18th birthday. They bought their first home with Clayton's life savings. They wanted a big family, but experienced several pregnancy losses. Clyde suffered a heart attack and didn't make it, promoting Clayton to owner and main caretaker of 20 acres. Violet became a nurse, loving caring for children that weren't her own.
Around Christmas 1990, Violet gave Clayton the news she was expecting. Clayton spent the first 5 months praying, begging God to let them keep this baby. Evelyn Coulter was born happy and healthy in September of 1991. He cried. His daughter became everything. She fell asleep to the rumbling of the tractor, learned to walk in the same fields he did.
Clayton struggled being an empty nester. Once Evie had finished school and moved to Turtle Bay, he visited her whenever he could. As he aged, he felt a strong pull to the small town. He met a lot of nice people and made friends with some of the natives/locals when he was in TB.
In the past year, Clayton's name stayed on the land but his best friend's son was the muscle behind it all. He and Violet quietly separated after years of tension and heated discussions about retirement and unearthed secrets. Violet stayed in Buies Creek, Clay moved to Turtle Bay. Evie has no idea that her parents are separated. Or that Clayton has met someone.
