A lot has happened already in 2018. I went to Sebastopol to drink wine with Les Claypool, went to Los Angeles to see Kyle Larson race, and went to San Jose to see Ian Bagg. All were amazing experiences I'll cherish forever. So why do I still feel sad?🏳 I'm doing my best not to be.

I was very into the street signs and grates around the city, as well as anything sakura themed- which was everywhere. We could see Tokyo Tower from our front stoop and i LOVED the orange glow despite thinking was a pretty hideous monument prior to seeing it in person. The lawsons natural general store around the corner from our apartment was a nice place to stop daily, i liked checking out the magazines and home goods and the bento boxes there are pretty great! we spent a lot of time in a line on escalators- some of the subways lines are 5 floors down! Addison recently was gifted a membership to Claypool Cellars and i grabbed this picture of his purple pachyderm hoodie at a subway station map.

HIS and HER: Sonoma Winery Weekend - Claypool Cellars

HIS and HER spent Memorial Day Weekend staying at a cottage in Jenner, CA, a town 'in the middle of nowhere' but right where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. We spent some time relaxing and taking in the views, but the majority was spent hustling from winery to winery. We'll spend the next few days reviewing each.

#1 Claypool Cellars

Located inside a train caboose in Sebastopol, Claypool Cellars is owned by Primus' Les Claypool.

HIS: I wanted to go here because I like Primus. It was as odd and funky as one would expect from a tasting room owned by Les Claypool. All the wines had 'pachyderm' in the title (they have a song called 'Southbound Pachyderm') so I liked that it wasn't a celebrity running away from their moneymaker and taking themselves too seriously in the wine world, ala Geoff Tate from Queensryche or Maynard James Keenan from Tool (though his vineyard is called Merkin Vineyards which is pretty funny). The wine was fine. It was all Pinot Noir and slightly chilled which made drinking on a hot day more pleasurable. And the woman running the tasting room worked on the music side of Les Claypool, Inc. so we could talk music instead of wine.

HER: I was very happy with our 1st stop of the long wine weekend. We didn't have reservations - as is advised by the website - so we rolled the dice hoping that someone was there pouring. Bacchus was looking down on us that day and the bar was being tended. I really enjoyed the wine, slightly chilled and big pours - pretty much a glass of wine. The pinots are really nice, more on the fruity side vs smokey. We were told that Les makes wine that he like to drink. I enjoyed it too. The tastings are $10, waived with purchase of wine.
