So I painted the little dish.
Hm.
I like it, but I feel like it's a bit plain...Maybe there should be some kind of pattern? Any ideas or suggestions?
Some mugs from my latest firing! I’m pretty stoked with the results, its always an intense moment opening the kiln, things can be quite unpredictable. There was only one casualty this firing (thank god!) and now I have the arduous task of grinding the kiln shelf removing any fused bits of glaze, not fun. The last step in finishing these mugs is to polish their bases to ensure any sharp bits of grog do not scratch the surface. I will be updating the Etsy store soon! #angeceramics#art#artist#australianceramics#clayworks#ceramic#ceramicart#ceramics#craft#clay#cone6#design#handmade#mug#stoneware#stonewarepottery#studiopottery#pottery#potter (at Bentleigh, Victoria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFIyfqwDtOW/?igshid=1w4jhif9t5fy8

This is a modern interpretation of a traditional object of significance to the Bamana culture in West Mali called 'boli'. Traditional bolis are objects of power that represent the Bamanan cosmos and are held in a special location by village elders. They can be made out of earth, blood, cattle dung, kola nuts and other material related to spiritual ritual. The purpose of such sculptures is " to wield power (life force) by concentrating it into one material object".
