Reposted from @littlehandshawaii 🐠Reef Safe 101 Before summer hits, we are focusing efforts towards re-educating our ‘ohana on choosing sunscreen that is the best for you and our reefs. . Anybody notice that the reefs and oceans are looking healthier during quarantine?! Perhaps, the rest from unhealthy sunscreens entering the oceans are one reason! . So what is reef-safe really? Truth is, the translation of this term can be misleading. You still have to look at the ingredient list and be able to decipher what is actually in your sunscreen (our ingredients are straight-forward!) . The term reef-safe is not a regulated term! Our friends @bantoxicsunscreens made this list of ingredients to absolutely avoid at all times... AVOID: Oxybenzone • Octinoxate • Octocrylene • Homosalate • Octisalate • Avobenzone • Parabens • Phthalates • Cocamide DEA • Propylene Glycol • Phenoxyethanol • Nano-Particles • BHT • PEGs • Parfum / Fragrance ⠀⠀ Furthermore, a reef-safe sunscreen in plastic packaging doesn’t really say reef-safe does it 🤔 ⠀⠀ More to come! #littlehandshawaii #reefsafe #cleansunscreen #mineralsunscreen #plasticfree #madeinhawaii #reefawareness https://www.instagram.com/p/B_5QmOsHtFd/?igshid=vbkq5jt8mgod
