Clem had held in her tears all day, trying not to think of her interaction with Nate, or the fact that her life in Oklahoma was coming back to bleed into her life here. She had been stress baking all day, and the minute Cassian came in the door, Clem's eyes started to water, finally letting herself feel it. "I'm sorry, I thought... I tried to keep it in," she said, hoping it didn't scare Cassian. "I swear I don't mean to cry the second you just got home."

Clem sat on the couch, shaking lightly as the thunder boomed above them. She was petting Star who was on her lap, panting harshly with anxiety too. "It's okay," she said. Clem felt her fingers tingling, thinking about the night that changed her life, but focused a little more on her dog. She knew the storm was coming, and she hated the anticipation more, as if bracing herself. Lightning lit up the dark sky and the apartment. She saw Cassian come into the living room from his bedroom "I'm okay," she said softly. "I'm alright."
