Mio bit her lip and gripped her wand tighter as she made her way down Cross Road. She had several interviews lined up during the Easter break for internships in London, Manchester, and Leeds because all she ever wanted was to live in a busy crowded city, but Cardiff was making her rethink it. She thought she ready for grunge and tiny dirty apartments, but this was nothing like she had imagined. There were human bones, flesh-eating slugs, and what looked like jars of live spiders on sale. Around every corner were shops that looked boarded up if she didn’t know any better. Mio kept her eyes down and on the road ahead of her as many of the shop entrances were at the end of steep, narrow staircases that made her feel as if she might fall in if she wasn’t careful. She shook her head. She was being silly. Aunt Olivia had sent her an owl about a tattoo artist friend that she had wanted Mio to meet. Her aunt wouldn’t send her somewhere dangerous, would she?
She looked the shop up-and-down and double- then triple-checked the address before taking a deep breath and pushing open the rickety door. “Um, is there anyone by the name of Cleo Nguyen who works here?”
