Former Hawkwind Violinist/Keyboardist and David Bowie Collaborator Simon House Dies at 76

- “He simply made everything better,” Cleopatra Records said in a statement

Violinist and keyboardist Simon House, who was a member of Hawkwind and a collaborator of David Bowie, has died at 76.

Cleopatra Records announced House’s May 25 death without giving the cause.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear friend and brilliant collaborator,” the label said in a statement.

“Simon wasn’t just a musician - he was a sonic architect who helped shape the sound of a generation. … Simon’s electrifying violin and cosmic keyboard work lifted every track, every show, every moment. His vision brought depth, texture and soul - he simply made everything better.”

House joined Hawkwind in 1974 and left to join Bowie in ’78, appearing on Stage and Lodger. He later worked with Thomas Dolby, Mike Oldfield and others and returned to Hawkwind in the 1980s and again in the aughts.

“Simon was a towering musical genius, yet humble and helpful to all of us in pursuit of our creative endeavours,” Hawkwind spinoff Hawklords said in a statement. “Never short of a wry and witty retort, or a beaming smile in any circumstances, he was a friend to all.”
