Tactful Trick
Sally and Samuel stared long and hard at the invitation the two of them had received in the mail. No words were exchanged, yet both were debating on whether or not to go. There was a chance it could have been a trap, and Sally was aware of that, but it was more than just her and Samuel that had been invited. All the cast, all the crew, even the director and the follies they shared the theater with all received an invitation, so maybe it was just some sort of marketing tactic. “What do you think?” No sooner than the words had left her mouth had the phone rang. “I’ll get it.” Samuel offered. “Sam, it’s my apartment, they’re calling me.” Too late. Samuel already picked up the phone and held it to his mouth. “Hello?” Sally got up from the chair and stood next to the phone so the two of them could hear the other end of the line. “She’s here.” “Cuphead?” The voice on the phone asked something. “Yes, Sam and I both got one, as well as everyone in the city.” “Don’t tell me the Devil’s gone and invited you too?!” The voice continued to explain things. “I agree. Maybe this is more than some advertisement scheme.” More explanations from the other end of the phone. “Acting as guards if the worse should happen? Absolutely. You may need backup, and we all know I’m not helpless. We’ll attend.”
