i want the k (is this illegal?)
It was late when Kate came back, and she knew it. But she just wanted to sleep, and if she could make it to the living room without making a sound, she would even get to sleep without interrogation. She quietly slipped off her boots and threw her jacket on a hook when she was betrayed by Lucky, excitedly barking to welcome her back. “Ssh Lucky, sssh calm down.” She pleaded with the unreasonable animal running laps around her legs. She bent down next to him and scratched his ears to calm him. She listened, and didnt hear a sound, maybe she was getting away with this, maybe Clint took out his hearing aids and went to sleep.
“Kate. S’that you?” she heard from the other room. No such luck, in fact it appeared he had fallen asleep with his hearing aids in, seemingly waiting for her.
“Damnit, Lucky. Do you see what you did to me?” He only cocked his head to the side and gave Kate the look that made it impossible for her to be annoyed with him for eve one second. “Yeah it’s me.” She called back. She kneeled down to the dog’s level to play with him.
“Do you have any idea what time it is, Katherine?” Clint asked in such a fatherly tone that it was surprising he didn’t have his own kids to give this lecture to. Kate looked up, he had his arms crossed, concern written all over his face. And that set her off.
She pushed past him to walk into the living room, lucky close at her heels. “I’m 21, you know that right? I’m of legal drinking age, and am basically recognized as an adult by pretty much any law, so the fact that you think you have any right to lecture me is honestly appalling. And I don’t even know why I came back here, I should have just gone home.” She turned to leave, but Clint was right behind her. Kate stomped her foot, not unlike a child and became instantly annoyed with herself for it, but even more annoyed with Clint for making her do it. Her lips pursed into a straight line and she bit the inside of her cheek for lack of anything to say.
“Something to say, Katie?” Clint asked, a hit of amusement in his voice. The fact that he was entertained by this made Kate’s blood boil even faster. She wanted to stomp her foot again, but restrained herself. Instead, she did something much more insane. Before she knew what she was doing she had her mentor pinned to the wall, his mouth forcefully on his. And to Kate’s surprise, he was kissing her back. That woke her up from her temporary insanity, and she pushed away from him, her blue eyes wide. He looked just as shocked as she was.
“Oh my god. Oh. My. God. I have to go.” She pushed past him, grabbed her jacket off the hook, scooped up her boots and slammed the door shut behind her. She made it to the end of the hall before stopping to breathe. “What the hell, Kate?” She whispered to herself. She ignored the sound of Clint calling her name from the end of the hall as she ran down the stairs and straight to her car.
