Day Five/Prompt One- Rescue Mission
After the third encounter with the Ghoulies that month, he and the other Serpents had been taking a break when he heard the yelling from across the park.
“Hey, Jones!”
Turning to look in the direction of the voice, his heart dropped at what he saw; A Ghoulie leader hanging onto a blonde with the point of a switchblade pressed up against her throat.
“This yours?” the Ghoulie called, yanking the girl closer to him.
Jughead clenched his fists before he relaxed his shoulders and stood up. Walking towards them, trying to keep his pace even and unaffected, he smirked at Malachi, ignoring the blonde.
“What can I do for you?” He ran his eyes over her before looking back to Malachi. “Didn’t realize you needed to kidnap your dates. Kind of low, even for you.”
Malachi scoffed. “Come on, Jones, you’re telling me she’s not yours?”
“Does she look like mine?”
“I found her sticking her pretty Northside nose where it didn’t belong—”
“So you assume I’m behind it?” Jughead asked, meeting Betty’s eyes for the first time, watching her mouth “I’m sorry” to him.
“Call it intuition,” Malachi said with a smug tilt of his head. “Nosy blondes seem like just your type.”
Jughead shrugged, gazing past Betty’s shoulder to take in their surroundings. He could see Fangs slowly walking up behind them, waiting for Jughead’s go-ahead. He bit back a sigh, trying to look disinterested and stall for time until Fangs was close enough to kick the back of Malachi’s knees, surprising him into letting go of Betty so Jughead could reach forward to grab her.
Pulling her into his arms, he ran his hands over her hair, looking her over. “What were you thinking?”
“I had a lead?” Betty offered weakly before burying her head into his chest. “I’m sorry.”
“You and your leads,” he said fondly, tilting her chin up and ignoring the sounds of fighting around them, “are going to be the death of me.”
