Establishing Client In Take / Onboarding Process
Should be systematic and repeatable
Consistent yet adaptable
Keep it easy for both you and the client: Short, simple
Make it efficient and organized: Checklists, a set location for notes,
Make sure it has a personal touch and is not exclusively forms
Consider making a survey
If doing a phone call or in person meeting, create a time limit to keep the session focused. Mention the limit beforehand.
Create a FAQ page that you can also direct new clients to
Why do I need this anyways?
Get to know each other
See if you’re a good fit for each other
Make sure you’re on the same page
Help prevent holes in communication later on
Tells client what you do and offer
Establish expectations
What questions should I ask my client? (Some of these answers will end up in you brief / contact!)
About You
Tell us about your company?
Tell us about your product / service?
What is your mission statement?
Who is your company’s target audience?
What sets you apart from the competition?
About This Project
What is your primary goal with this project?
Could you show me some examples of things (being logos, paintings, whatever they are asking for) you like?
What aspects would you like to see? Color scheme, font choice, imagery, etc
What style do you see your particular idea in? (Flashy, minimal, classy, colorful, retro, weird, plain, etc)
Is there anything you explicitly DO NOT want?
Any additional comments?
Budget?
Deadline?
Now what?
After collecting information about the client...
Put the details in your brief / contract / design proposal
Request the deposit / down payment
Create a dedicated client folder and put any paperwork thus far in it
Begin the project! (Hopefully)
