Day 99: Welcoming New Members
I love new clients. I love when people take that leap, make that step, and show up as the new person in classes.
I want to do everything I can to honor this. It's not something I take lightly.
Over the years, I've been working on perfecting the welcome. I like to make sure to say hello, explain how the class works, introduce them to other members, and give them detailed instructions on what they need. I also try to ask if there are any movements they don't like to do or muscles/parts of the body they like to be delicate with during exercise.
(note: it's taken me a long time not to ask "do you have any injuries" because I'm not a PT and not a medical doctor. But I can ask what sides they favor or what muscles they don't like to move)
That's just the beginning.
I'll try to say their name positively during the class. There's nothing more beautiful than hearing your own name!
I also like to make sure they leave with something. I'll bundle my schedule, card that has a QR code to free workout videos, and a pen. I'd love to have a folder or something even more official.
It also reminds me that I've gotten more lax on my waiver situation and my marketing materials. Every time I have someone new to class, I learn something additional I can have to offer.
It's also a reminder to be new student and to try new things myself. Not only do I get to see other fit pro's accommodations for a new client and their processes, I also get to remind myself what it feels like to be new, not knowing what to expect.
WOD: 30 min HIGH fitness practice, 60 min HIGH fitness class
