Glaciers are melting so fast that it’s common scientific understanding that by 2050 most of the worlds glacier (that aren’t in the poles) will be gone or at the past of no return. You can’t describe the waves of ice and their power until you’ve seen them up close. It’s a privilege for me any time I get to be near one, because I know that it will never be the same again and even just seeing it then is a gift from the earth. These amazing, ancient ice sheets however powerful they are, cannot stop global climate change. That change has to begin with each and every one of us. If not for the glaciers, for our planet, for ourselves, and for our future.

I laughed at the delivery of this, but I do agree that when you’re ill prepared for something as simple as “2 inches of snow”, which if you’re living in the south where this weather NEVER happens is a big deal, this stuff happens.  Extreme cold for them is a really bad thing even, because a lot of the homes there aren’t insulated enough to handle that kind of cold.  We can joke about it all we want, but see, I’m from the Northeast/Midwest.  Snow happens here in the winter.  If Mother Nature flipped a switch and it was suddenly 100 degrees in January, we couldn’t cope with that.  We barely cope in the summer even.

Not that I’d complain if it was 100 degrees in January—it has done NOTHING but snow in Michigan since November, and I am OVER WINTER.  It is never fun to go out to an interview and have no shoes that can withstand ice, so you pretty much have to walk like a fucking penguin in shoes with no traction…

So yes, it sounds ridiculous that a small amount of snow (for us up north) would basically shut down 90% of the south, this is something they aren’t used to at all.
