hey, guys! it’s time for another short, super-funny song on the B-Side…this is one of my personal favorites, and always puts a smile on my face when i listen to it. hopefully it does the same for you all too! DAY TWELVE: Like a Chuff ARTWORK PHOTO: @jee_jet ORIGINAL SONG: “Like a Boss” by The Lonely Island CONCEPT: though i’d love to take credit for this hilarious idea’s inception, @carlos_vida was the one who really inspired it…there was one day where we were setting on adjacent lines, and while we were hanging up there we joked back and forth about different lines for the song - most of which made it into the final version. as you’ve probably guessed, the song is supposed to mock the ‘dally life’ of your average chuffer, i.e. basically someone who thinks they are better than they think they are, particularly at rock climbing. this is NOT the same thing as a gumby, though people seem to use these terms interchangeably. alriiiiiight, we’re about to do one of my personal favorites (if not my favorite!) off the mixtape; be warned, you probably won’t like it as much as i do, haha - it’s just a decent song. https://deuceishiphop.bandcamp.com/album/tape-climb-perfectrepeat-b-side DAY FIVE: Boulders on the Boards ARTWORK PHOTO: @jee_jet ORIGINAL SONG: “Numbers on the Boards” by Pusha T CONCEPT: for the most part, i was going for a grittier-sounding version of the concept for “No [Boulder] Problem,” so basically just talking shit about how cool I think I am, as most rap is, hahaha. i feel like this is the first song on the mixtape where i actually start rapping, and maybe that’s because i’m emulating the flow of Pusha T, who definitely has one of my favorite flows of any rapper. this song seemed to just click in every way; i wrote it quickly, i recorded it in very few takes, and the mixing process went smoothly - i feel like my voice sits really well in the track, and i love the slight distortion on them. excuse my lateness on this post - I'm actually on the way back from Rocktown...working hard on my "V6 Man" goal, but we can talk about that after my "21 Days of Bouldering." speaking of, here you go! ORIGINAL SONG: "No Problem" by Chance the Rapper CONCEPT: honestly, just a fun song about talking shit about being a better boulderer than the next man, haha. the original is one of my favorite songs from last year, with one of the best beats I'd heard in a while, so I just HAD to do something with it. turns out that @powercompanyclimbing shared my sentiment, because I convinced him to contribute another awesome verse! I think we play off each other super well in this song - different flows, rhyme schemes, delivery, etc. FAVORITE LINE: "I'm a manager - far from amateur / little nigga run the game of thrones; Tyrion Lannister"...I've been waiting literally YEARS to be able to use that line - like I think I wrote it in 2011 or 2012, lol. it just never fit in any rap i did, until now of course! my preference to this line probably explains my preferential treatment of it in the song - what with all of the effects and dropping the beat out, haha. hey, guys! looks like it’s finally time to start my release of Part II of “Tape.CLIMB.PerfectRepeat.”…so, here you are - the first day of “21 Days of Bouldering”! DAY ONE: Pre-Season Workout ORIGINAL SONG: “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” by Kanye West CONCEPT: I wanted to have a solid intro to the bouldering mixtape, and this one kind of happened by accident…i actually think @soldierclimber may have jokingly said the “wait till I get my training right” part, because that’s how i saw the amazing parallel between the message of the original song and training for rock climbing. it’s basically just a song about being motivated to prove others wrong - in this case, when i get my training game on point…people won’t have jack-shit to say about me. hahaha. fun fact, i was actually sick when i recorded all of this - see if you can tell!
