Tarot Pulls for Change Day 8 . The 8th Fire “I have all the energy I need to accomplish my goals with ease and grace.” . This suit is about primal energy, strength, intuition and expansion. It is about embracing the dragon within- embracing transformation, passion, enthusiasm, and clarity of purpose. But the dragon energy is also hot, wild, and unpredictable. A card of energy, of movement, of action and alignment, is very fitting for Monday, a day when I have 2 classes (each lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes) between 8:45 am and 6 pm. The first class is about interpersonal relationships and communication- a space that needs grounding and compassion but straight talk about how racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, and ageism create painful, toxic, destructive, and sometimes deadly relationships. Mentioning this several times I almost could hear a whispered “Amen” from some of the students. . But my afternoon class deserves as much of me as my morning class, so my challenge is to engage in care so I can bring my best self to that class as well. “Our life’s work is to become aware. To do this cultivate sympathy and empathy, open yourself to what you meet and allow yourself to learn from it.” (Gloria Anzaldùa) . Tarot Pulls for Change Day 7 . The Birth of Water “There is an infinite source of love around and within me. Return to the source of love. Drink deep from the ocean of love.” . The Surrendered Universe “I trust fall into my deepest desires." . This Birth of Water remind me that teaching with love is the most powerful thing I can do today as students present their journeys. I may be tempted to multitask but that dilutes my ability to co-create learning containers of love. "To love well is the task in all meaningful relationships” bell hooks. . The Surrendered Universe suggests the “fly free falling fool… breathe-sing-dance through the tense edges… learn to be held in the groundlessness...that it is only falling if there is a ground. Leap!” I am finding inspiration about the meaning of this from Gloria Anzaldùa since I am struggling with carving out time for writing: “Write with your eyes like painters, with your ears like musicians, with your feet like dancers. You are the truthsayer with quill and torch. Write with your tongues on fire.” I think sometimes we academics forget this. .
