Senecio kleiniiformis - Spear Head Flower Came across a row of spear head flowers just before blossoming during a dog walk on our way to Tama River. Assuming I have made a proper identification, the spear head flower is named after its blue-green triangular spear shaped leaves. It’s amazing to know that some (or all?) of the violet family produce “cleistogamous flower”, closed flower for self-fertilization; this can minimize the energy cost for reproduction. This example from Viola grypoceras A. Gray.
I got to see a corpse flower for the first time today. Sadly, we were too early and it hasn’t bloomed yet. It was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but we couldn’t see the very bottom of it (it’s in a pot hidden by the plants below).
