AO Day One - three great matches and we avoided the rain - thank you for closing the roof in time.
First up a new comer, Anca Todoni vs Zheng. They went to a tiebreaker in the first set and I think Anca just needs more experience to come back from a tough set and keep up that level of tennis. Then it was an epic 5 setter with Ruud vs a good friend and sometimes playing partner, Jamae Munar, another first timer. Munar kept up with the 200+ kph serves but Ruud just seemed to absorb them.
The weather magically improved when we left Rod Laver and they restarted the delayed outdoor matches. We found ourselves in Court 3 watching an Aussie, Omar Jasika vs Hugo Gaston from France. Despite the overwhelming crowd support for Omar, Hugo managed to win in four. Seats were hard to come by so we didn’t want to chance leaving to watch Leyla but she won anyway so we’ll catch her next round.
Day Two is a ground pass day so you just never know who’s around the Precinct (new name for the Tennis Centre). FAA is outdoors at 6pm tonight so that’s a for sure. But we forgot our Canadian apparel. 🙄
