Prompt | Freeze Dried Food
"But dad..." She whined in disapproval as her father passed over a bowl of tinned food with a big smile on his face. Seeing her wrinkle her nose in disgust made him chuckle and ruffle his daughter's hair before leaning back and admiring the camp fire the two were seated by. "Trust me little lady...it's not as bad as it looks." When Elizabeth gave him a look of disbelief another chuckle slipped free as he gently knocked his thumb playfully against his girl's chin. "Really! Just try it." Sighing slightly, young Elizabeth cautiously dipped her spoon into the bowl, squeezing her eyes shut as she shoved the spoon quickly into her mouth - her young logic telling her if she did this the taste wouldn't be so bad. At first she frowned as she let the food touch her taste buds, but after a little while and a few more half-hearted spoons, soon enough, she was tucking into the meal quite happily. Smiling as his daughter embraced the moment, the girl's father finished his own bowl of food in a comfortable, peaceful silence. When the bowls were completely cleared of food, Elizabeth gave a big smile toward her father. "You were right...thanks dad." Shuffling towards him the young girl nuzzled into his arms as he rested his chin against her head. "I knew you'd like it. You're an adventure Elizabeth...it's in your blood. Whenever you eat freeze dried food you can think of your old dad and our times together like this. Then that way, even if the food isn't always good...it'll at least be special." --------------------------------------- Opening her eyes quickly, Shaw came back from her memory, the light of the mess hall causing her to squint a little. Everyone was to wrapped up in their own discussions to notice her momentary trip down memory lane, and the young scientist was secretly glad about that. Looking down at her food she continued to eat with a smile on her face. You were right again...I really did think of you...thanks dad.
