It was a workday that had begun like any other. But that would soon change. I had just delivered a package to the customer’s porch and was walking back to the truck when...without warning...I was viciously attacked from behind by the Evil Duck. Its webbed talons rent my flesh, its jagged beak pecked at my head and neck, and its powerful wings pummeled me mercilessly. I had been caught fatally unawares, with my guard down, and was very quickly driven to my knees by its relentless assault. I flailed helplessly against the onslaught in a desperate bid for survival but my struggles were of no avail as it overpowered me. My very life flashed before my eyes. All hope seemed lost until, out of nowhere, Gracie the Goodest Girl charged forth and, grasping the gruesome grotesquerie in the grinding grip of her jaws, proceeded to engage it in a battle of gargantuan proportions. Her act of calculated canine courage compelled the dastardly and devious duck to detach from me, thereby allowing me to crawl to the safety of the truck while the combatants continued their deadly duel. The battle raged on, with neither side willing to yield until, in a final frenzy of four-legged fury, the mighty Gracie was able to shake the very life out of the fowl creature and end the threat once and for all. Trembling with gratitude, I bestowed a generous gift of four biscuits upon her as a token of my appreciation for her act of selfless bravery. The mean streets of Newberg, Oregon are a little safer for yours truly when the mighty Gracie has my back! By Scott Hodges.
