CLOSE YOUR EYES is looking for staff to join us for a major revamp!
Though we intend to keep the heart of the setting the same (magical powers in a totalitarian post-apocalyptic city), there are going to be some big updates to the lore and the systems. The site’s been quiet recently as everyone is waiting for the revamp next month, but we still have a core member base of around ten members plus more who might return when things pick up again!
MAJOR CHANGES INCLUDE:
Removing the stat system and moving to a more common sense collaborative writing for quests and events – reasonable probabilities, not d3+4, which we’ve found to be too limiting for quests to be as fun as we’d intended
Keeping the inventory system and awakenings, so characters will still unlock unique powers and can collect old world magical relics, but starting characters with nothing to allow us to remove the character limit
Fleshing out the lore, opening up the setting for more character flexibility (including the political system) and expanding the setting (void mines, anyone?). There’s going to be a general increase in tech levels as well, so everything will be a touch more sci-fi.
Introducing a new faction system so members can have a more direct impact on the main plot and run their own minor story lines
As my co-creator stepped down recently for personal reasons and real-life time constraints, I’m looking for one or two new people to step in as new site admin to help us redevelop the site and be key players going forwards. We’re currently a staff team of three, myself and two mods, so we should be able to get a good group going. I’m flexible on changing a lot of things to accommodate new staff, to allow you to feel like it’s partly your baby too. If you’d like to help out but aren’t sure you want the responsibility of being an administrator, the site could always use moderators to help out with quests/events and general maintenance.
WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR IN STAFF:
People willing to jump in head first. I appreciate it’s difficult to join an existing site as staff, but as this revamp is so major it’s almost like creating a new site from scratch. I’m not looking for drones to do what they’re told, I want people to come with their own ideas and things they’d love to see.
The major staff duty is running quests and events. Now that the stat system is changing so much, this mostly means that people need to be happy with coming up with and running short scenarios for small groups of characters, normally 2-4 per thread. I can show you examples of/overviews of the sort of quests and events we’ve run so far, but it largely means coming up with a general direction and anticipated outcome and having the flexibility to adapt if character decisions are unexpected. You’ll never be left to do this entirely alone, as the planning of the threads will always be a group project, and at least two staff members will be assigned to each thread to write the actual NPC responses.
Other staff duties, such as moderation and character acceptance, shouldn’t take too much time. I’m not expecting anyone to waste time advertising, so no worries about spending three hours every Sunday copy pasting links.
I’ve got a sexy new skin nearly finished for the revamp (I can show you previews, if you’re interested) so no coding/graphics ability is needed, though it’s always nice to have.
